Starmer meets Zelensky in show of support

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has visited Ukraine to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and reaffirm his party's support for the country in its war with Russia.

Starmer's visit is the first by a British opposition leader since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

In a statement, Starmer said: "I am here today to send a clear message of solidarity from the Labour Party and the British people to the people of Ukraine."

"We stand with you in your fight for freedom and democracy." Zelensky thanked Starmer for his support and said he was "grateful for the strong and principled position" that the Labour Party had taken on Ukraine.
