Braves Blow Four-Run Lead, Lose 6-5 to Reds

Atlanta's bullpen falters in ninth inning

The Atlanta Braves blew a four-run lead in the ninth inning and lost 6-5 to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night.

Braves' bullpen falters

The Braves' bullpen, which had been one of the best in baseball this season, faltered in the ninth inning.

With the Braves leading 5-1, Jesse Chavez allowed a leadoff single to Tyler Naquin. After getting two outs, Chavez walked Brandon Drury and allowed a single to Joey Votto. That brought up Kyle Farmer, who hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 5-3.

The Reds then loaded the bases with a walk to Aristides Aquino. A single by Nick Senzel tied the game and chased Chavez from the game. Luke Jackson came on and allowed a sacrifice fly to Jake Fraley that gave the Reds a 6-5 lead.

Braves' offense goes quiet

The Braves' offense, which had been hot all series, went quiet in the ninth inning.

The Braves had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Dansby Swanson grounded out to end the game.

Braves now 3.5 games back in NL East

The loss dropped the Braves to 3.5 games back of the New York Mets in the NL East.

The Braves will try to avoid a sweep when they face the Reds in the series finale on Sunday.
